By using this website or providing us with your information, you consent to the handling of your information as described in this policy.

What is personal information

Personal information is information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable. For us, this is usually contact and project-related information about the people we deal with at the businesses, sites and properties we work for.

Information we collect

We collect personal information that you provide when you submit an enquiry, request an initial project review, engage us for project work, or otherwise correspond with us. This typically includes:

  • your name and your role or position;
  • the business, body corporate, centre or organisation you represent;
  • your email address and phone number;
  • the site or property address and access details;
  • project details you choose to share, such as photographs, drawings, defect notices, asset records and site requirements; and
  • any other information you include in your communications with us.

We generally collect personal information only where it is reasonably necessary for, or directly related to, delivering our services or running our business.

How we collect your information

We collect personal information directly from you, through this website, by email, and in the course of delivering projects. In some cases we may collect information from third parties, such as a strata or property manager, a builder, a supply authority, or a referrer, where you have engaged them to deal with us on your behalf.

Why we collect and use your information

We collect, hold and use personal information to:

  • respond to enquiries and carry out an initial project review;
  • prepare proposals, scope and pricing for project work;
  • deliver, document, certify and invoice project work;
  • coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, supply authorities and engineers to deliver a project;
  • meet our legal, electrical safety, insurance and compliance obligations;
  • maintain records, asset registers and warranty documentation;
  • communicate relevant project updates and respond to your requests; and
  • improve our services and the operation of this website.

Direct marketing

We may occasionally send you information about our services that we believe is relevant to you, where the law permits. We do not sell your information for marketing, and any marketing communication will give you a simple way to opt out. To opt out at any time, email info@commercialswitchboards.com.au.

Disclosure of your information

We do not sell personal information. We may disclose personal information to:

  • subcontractors, switchboard manufacturers and suppliers engaged to deliver your project;
  • supply authorities, including Energex and Ergon, where required for connections, metering or energisation;
  • RPEQ engineers and other professional advisers involved in a project;
  • insurers, auditors and regulators where reasonably necessary or required by law; and
  • government or law enforcement bodies where we are required or authorised by law to do so.

Where we disclose information to third parties to deliver a project, we share only what is reasonably necessary for that purpose.

Overseas disclosure

We primarily store and handle personal information in Australia. Some of our service providers (for example, cloud hosting, email or analytics providers) may store or process data on servers located overseas. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.

Storage and security

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Information is held in secure systems, hosted in Australia where practicable, with access limited to those who need it to do their work. While we work to protect your information, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data retention

We keep personal information only for as long as it is needed for the purposes set out in this policy, or as required by law, insurance and compliance obligations. Project, certification and warranty records are generally retained for the period required by electrical, contractual and legal record-keeping obligations. When information is no longer required, we take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it.
